Mae A. Bailey

HENDERSON — Mae Radford Abbott Bailey, age 91, a resident of 1245 Park Ave., Henderson, and a former resident of 176 Vicksboro Road, Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, in a local nursing home.

Born in Franklin County on May 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland Abbott and Lucy Mosley Abbott. Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Graveside services will be held today, at 2:30 p.m., at Sunset Gardens by Minister Thomas Ball and Minister Jimmie McNeil.

She is survived by one daughter, Bertie Bumgarner of Warrenton; two sons, Eddie D. Bailey of Richmond, Va., and Tony Newson of Henderson; one sister, Mildred Hale of Henderson; two grandchildren, Tina Bumgarner Bryant and Troy Dean Bumgarner; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Game Jones, Emily Jo Bumgarner and John David Bumgarner; and two great-great-grandchildren, Haley Michele Jones and William Gregory Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ed Bailey.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Sunset Gardens.

John T. Frazier

NORLINA — John Thomas “Tommy” Frazier, age 73, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at his residence. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Burnette and Katherine Ellington Frazier.

Tommy was a member of Norlina Baptist Church where he served as leader of the Lightshine Youth Group. He conducted Nursing Home Ministry at Warren Hills Nursing Center, Magnolia Gardens and the McKissick Center. He announced Norlina High School Football and Basketball games and umpired for many years. He was a part time detention officer for the Warren County Sheriffs Office and a former employee at Cochrane Furniture. He served as private first class in the N.C. Army National Guard.

Rev. Douglas Cutts and William S. Fuller will conduct funeral services at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Norlina Baptist Church with burial to follow in Warren Dale Cemetery, Norlina.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Geneva Rose “Jean” Frazier; his daughters: Donna Lynn Frazier Paschall and husband, Hal Paschall Jr., and Susan Rose Frazier Lankford and husband, Scott; brother: William Burnette “Billy” Frazier Jr. and wife, Betsy; sister: Cynthia Anne Townsend; nephews: Richard and Kirk Frazier; niece, Brooke Thigpen; grandchildren, Jeremy Dale Paschall, Cindy Paschall Gardner and husband, Brian, Ashley Nicole Lankford, Emily Taylor Lankford and Madison Grace Lankford; and his great-grandchild: Kenan Tate Gardner.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home, Warrenton.

Robert C. Bagbey Sr.

HENDERSON — Robert Chester “Shorty” Bagbey Sr., 64, of 1430 U.S. 58, Buffalo Junction, Va., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Va.

Born in Mecklenburg County, Va., he was the son of the late Ethel Elliott and Walter William Bagbey.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Norman Talley.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Edith Reavis Bagbey; two daughters, Beth Bagbey Grissom of Henderson, and Shannon Bagbey Walker of Buffalo Junction; two sons, Walter T. “Little Shorty” Bagbey of Buffalo Junction, Va., and Robert C. “Robbie” Bagbey Jr. of Virginia; five sisters, Rachel Thomas and Polly Goss, both of Oxford, Wilma Clayton of Stem, Callie Dunn and Bonnie Hopkins, both of Virgilina, Va.; one brother, William L. Bagbey Sr. of Henderson; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Bagbey and Henry Maynard Bagbey.

The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times they will be at the home of Mike and Beth Grissom, 210 Walker Road Henderson.

Virgie A. Bishop

HENDERSON — Virgie Abbott Bishop of 523 Woodland Road, Raleigh, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Hospice of Wake County, William M. Dunlap Center in Raleigh.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Short and Clara Dickerson Short. She was the widow of Armstead Jackie Bishop.

Bishop was a homemaker, and a loving mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Timothy J. Burgess. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Ann Abbott and Karen Denise Bryant, both of Raleigh; a son, Hubert Curtis Abbott Jr., of Garner; a sister, Jewell Langley, of Henderson; a brother, Clyde “Bud” Short of Henderson; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Nannie Williams, Mary Williams and Judy Harris; and by a brother, Bobby West.

The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Terry Johnson, Tim Dunlow, Ronnie Faucette, Joe Faucette, Connie Williams, David Bissette, Brad Lendzian and Tim Colby. Jeffrey P. Dement

HENDERSON — Jeffrey Pritchard Dement, 56, of 8825 N.C. 39 S., Henderson (in the Epsom community), died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at his home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of Lalla Pritchard “Tooti” Dement and the late Thomas Jackson Dement Sr.

Dement was a carpenter. He was a member of Liberty Christian Church.

No services are currently planned.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, is a sister, Ellen D. Briggs of Manson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas J. Dement Jr.

Oliver T. Durham Sr.

HENDERSON — Oliver Thomas Durham Sr., 72, of 525 Water St., Henderson, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

He was born in Vance County and the son of the late James Alvin and Ida Balthrope Durham.

He attended the Vance County Public Schools and graduated from Henderson Institute. He was a member of the Townsville Masonic Lodge. He worked for the City of Henderson for a number of years.

Funeral service will be Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Oak Level United Church of Christ by the Rev. Leon White. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Oliver T. Durham Jr. of Oxford, James Fisher and Thomas Durham both of Henderson; six daughter, Patricia Branch of Dudley, Arlene Turner of Henderson, Priscilla Jenning of Roanoke, Va., Mary Valentine of Manson, Olivia Williams of Warrenton and Ida Durham of Durham; two brothers, William Durham and Kenny Durham, both of Durham; two sisters, Oza Lee Daniels of Newark, N.J., and Ida Harris of Henderson; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Body will be on view Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour before the service.

WARRENTON — Elizabeth Edwards, 84, of Warrenton, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Warren Hills Nursing Center in Warrenton.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, but will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.

MANSON — Anna Hullock Reid, 90, of 647 Burchette Road, Manson, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center, Henderson.

LOUISBURG — Darin Williams, 48, of 50 Joyful Lane in Louisburg (formerly of Warrell County), died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

HENDERSON — Harry Joe Wortham of 505 Azalea Drive, Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Duke Medical Center in Durham.
