James P. Pernell

ROCKY MOUNT — James Perry “J.P.” Pernell, age 83, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

Born in Franklin County on June 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Bennie Green Pernell and Viola Pernell.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joan “JoAnn” Briggs Pernell, and brothers Thomas Pernell, Roger Pernell and Marvin Pernell.

J.P. retired after 50 years of service with EPES Transport, Inc., having driven 4 million miles without an accident.

Along with his dedication to his Lord and Savior, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Ora Rowe Pernell; sons, Clay Pernell and wife Ronna of Apex, Dale Pernell and wife Teresa of Wilton, and Mike Pernell and wife Jane of Henderson; brother, Clyde Pernell of Henderson; Ora’s family, including her daughter, Kathy Sanders and husband Lynn of LaGrange, and sons, Kenny Dickerson and wife Celia of Rocky Mount, Keith Dickerson and wife Janice of Wilmington, and the late Ryan Kelly Dickerson; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A service to remember J.P. will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Sossamon and the Rev. Phillip Coates officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service, at 10 a.m. J.P. will be buried at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, May 2, at Fuller Chapel Church Cemetery in Henderson.

Frances D. Villatico

UPTON, Mass. — Frances D. (Capone) Villatico, 79, of Upton, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

Frances’ husband of 46 years, Virgil D. Villatico, passed away on March 17, 2000.

She is survived by her son, Paul Virgil Villatico and his wife Beth of Raleigh, N.C.; her daughter, Dolores Young and her husband Alexander of Upton, with whom she lived; two beloved grandchildren, Sarah and Mollie Young both, of Upton; and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her three brothers, Michael, Fred and Joseph Capone.

Frances was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Natale and Mollie (Pane) Capone. She grew up Worcester, where she attended Commerce High School. She moved to Oxford in 1986, where she lived until 2005 when she moved to Upton.

Frances was a medical records assistant for Fallon Clinic, where she worked for 25 years, retiring in 1991.

She loved to cook and her greatest enjoyment was her granddaughters.

Services for Frances will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014, from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester.

Burial next to her husband will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, Mass.

A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Frances can be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.

George T. Perry

HENDERSON — George Thomas Perry entered into eternal rest on April 28, 2014, in the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Son of the late Tollie and Rebecca Kelly Perry, he was born Feb. 20, 1946, in Warren County.

He was an independent truck driver for 44 years.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Elizabeth Hawkins Perry; two daughters, Jacqueline P. Marrow and Erica N. Perry; two sons, Georgie T. Perry and Cornell T. Perry; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Helen P. Davis; and one brother, Paul H. Perry.

In addition, three nieces, one nephew and several cousins survived him.

Andrew Perry preceded him in death.

All funeral services will be private.

 

Lucy B. Haskins

SOUTH HILL, Va. — Lucy Belle “Nookey” Haskins, 81, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the Hundley Center of South Hill.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Bethlehem Christian Church in Manson, N.C., by the Rev. Kathard Marks. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be today, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the chapel of R.H. Greene Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Betty Q. Henderson

HENDERSON — Betty B. Quinitchette Henderson, 55, of 1190 Axtel Road, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Edith Evans.

Interment will follow in the New Zion First Pentecostal Church Cemetery.

Viewing will be Friday, May 2, from noon to 6 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

CREEDMOOR — Braylen Lee Hester-Braswell, 3 months, of 107 Pecan St., died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

HENDERSON — Deloris Rainey, 81, of 3569 U.S. 158, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at her residence.

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday, May 3, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor William Clayton. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be Friday, May 2, from noon to 6 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church two hours prior to the service.

HENDERSON — Elizabeth Sneed, 90, of Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Sunday, April 20, 2014.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Albert W. Moses. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. today, May 1, in the chapel of Davis-Royster and at the church one hour prior to the service.
