C. Douglas Blackmon

HENDERSON — Clarence Douglas “Doug” Blackmon, 69, of 2375 Ross Mill Road, Henderson, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Walter Earl Blackmon Sr. and Virgie Franklin Blackmon.

Mr. Blackmon a retired employee of St. Gobain Containers Inc. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Harriett Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Harriett Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Will Breedlove and the Rev. Jake Roberson. A private burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery.

Surviving are his lifelong companion, Betty H. Blackmon; two daughters, Lisa B. Murphy and Regina B. Edwards, both of Henderson; two sisters, Mary B. Hill and husband Buck of Lake City, Fla., and Faye B. Rutherford and husband Dean of Buckhead, Ga.; a brother, Donald R. Blackmon of Cary; and three grandchildren, Justin K. Wagner, William D. Edwards and Thomas A. Murphy.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter B. Blackmon Jr., Garland E. Blackmon and Robert W. Blackmon, and a half-sister, Mary Ann W. Wynn.

The family will receive friends at the home, 2375 Ross Mill Road, Henderson.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Herman Hanks, Jake Roberson, Jimmy Hicks, Bruce Sparks, Gary Sparks, Mack Collier, David Clark, Gerald Blackmon and Jimmy Lassiter.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vance County Chapter, P.O. Box 914, Henderson, NC 27536.

James H. Dickerson Jr.

OXFORD — James Howard Dickerson Jr., 57, died Monday, April 28, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Bruce Brooks.

Visitation will be Wednesday, from noon to 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church, 4527 Antioch Road, Oxford, NC 27565.

Nicholas P. Epanchin

HENDERSON — Nicholas Paul Epanchin, age 23, of 155 Lakeview Drive, died Saturday, April 26, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home by the Rev. Bruce Copeland and James Stainback.

The family will receive friends at the home at 155 Lakeview Drive.

Peggie A. Hargrove

HENDERSON — Peggie Ann Hargrove, 56, of 1251 High Street, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Emily B. Jones

WARRENTON — Emily Esther Branche Jones, 96, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Warren Hills Nursing Center.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today, April 29, at Greenwood Baptist Church by the Rev. Stephon Goode. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Warrenton.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 28, in the chapel of Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

A wake was held Monday, April 28, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Boyd’s Funeral Services.

Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services.

HENDERSON — Louise Williams, 87, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Duke University Hospital.
