Joseph E. Henderson Sr.

KITTRELL — Joseph Emerson Henderson Sr., 86, of Kittrell, passed away on April 22, 2014.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and is survived by his wife, Alice S. Henderson.

He is also survived by his children, Roselyn Roach, Julius Henderson, Ira Henderson, Joseph Henderson Jr., Dwight Henderson, Syble Henderson, Wanda Henderson and Bryan Henderson; one sister, Louise Burwell; and a special brother-in-law, Leon Stovall.

He was preceded in death by his children, Reginald Henderson and Dana Henderson Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at Concord Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. S.E. Blalock presiding.

Arrangements are by Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

 

George L. Bell Jr.

WARRENTON — George Lewis Bell Jr., 74, died on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

He was a Bangor, Maine, native born to the late George L. Bell Sr. and Violet E. Jordan Bell. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Louise Limer Woltz.

Mr. Bell was a U.S. Army Veteran, a former site manager with International Technology Corporation and attended the Warrenton Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at Fairview Cemetery by Dr. Allen Kelly.

Frances J. Hicks

OXFORD — Frances Jones Hicks, a resident of Oxford, died Thursday, April 24, 2014.

She was the daughter of the late Lewis Garland Jones Sr. and Bessie Phillips.

Frances was the widow of the late Henry Rives Hicks Sr.

She was a member of West Oxford Baptist Church and a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for many years until rheumatoid arthritis limited her activities.

Cooking, shopping and gardening were some of Frances’ favorite loves. But her greatest enjoyment in life was the love she had for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday April 26, in the West Oxford Baptist Church by the Rev. Wes Garner. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford.

Surviving are her children Henry Rives Hicks II (Ruth) and Vickie Hicks Englebright (William Currin); two brothers, Ray Jones (Betty) and L.G. Jones, Jr. (Barbara); three grandchildren, Martin Hicks (Patrick), Heather Englebright Page (Kirk) and Mary Elizabeth Hicks; and two great-grandchildren Taylor Dixon and Peyton Page.

She was preceded in death by Lewis Roy Jones Sr. and Mildred Matthews.

Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to West Oxford Baptist Church, 101 Pine Tree Road, Oxford, NC 27565, or to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, 4530 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Lucy B. Haskins

BOYDTON, Va. — Lucy Belle Haskins, 81, of 2625 Mineral Springs Road, Boydton, Va., died April 23, 2014, at the Hundley Center of South Hill, Va.

Julius D. Shaw

WISE — Julius D. Shaw, 85, of Wise, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Wise by the Rev. Kenneth L. Alexander Sr.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

Kathreen H. Wiggins

HENDERSON — Kathreen H. Wiggins, 52, of Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Greater Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Wesley Crews.

Interment will follow in Oak Level United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Viewing will be today, April 26, from 1 to 7 p.m. in the chapel and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and all other times at 149 Foster Road.
