Nellie O. Shearin
GASTON — Nellie Overby Shearin, 79, of 465 N.C. 46, Gaston, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Mrs. Shearin was born in Vance County, the daughter of the late Samuel Overby and Dora Holmes Overby. She retired from J.P. Stevens & Co. and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Lee Vaughan.
Surviving are her husband, William Woodrow Shearin; five daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Louise Shearin and her husband, Roy, of Gaston, Linda Faye Harris and her husband, Michael, of Gaston, Betsy Marie Carter and her husband, Dale, of Littleton, Mary Ann Baird of Emporia, Va., Donna Marie Golden of Rock Hill, S.C.; three sons, Fred Holden Vaughan Jr. and his wife, Angela, of Gaston, Donnie Ray Vaughan and his wife, Rita, of Gaston, Jackie Allan Vaughan and his wife, Ann Faye, of Gaston; a sister, Elizabeth Kearney of Henderson; 24 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, June 15, 2013, at 11 a.m., in Antioch Christian Church, Elam, with Minister Mark Wethington officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family was received at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, Friday, June 14, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and other times at 469 N.C. 46, Gaston.

WENDELL — Mabel Davis, age 58, of Wendell and formerly of Warren County, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Durham.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Snow Hill Baptist Church in Warrenton. Rev. A.F. Horton will officiate.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Kenneth Nathaniel Higgs, 88, died Monday, June 10, 2013, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 17, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Kittrell with Rev. Charles Turrentine officiating. Interment will follow in the Jesse Kittrell Cemetery with military rites and Masonic rites.
The family will receive friends at the church Monday, from noon to 1 p.m.

OXFORD — Aquilla Jones, a resident of 7704 Goshen Road, Oxford, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. at St. Matthews Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the funeral home.
