Verna O. Wilkerson

STOVALL — Verna Oakley Wilkerson, 85, a lifetime resident of Granville County, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Granville Medical Center in Oxford.

A native of Granville County, the widow of Armstead A. Wilkerson and the daughter of the late Willie and Etta Dean Oakley. She was a member of Stovall United Methodist Church and was retired pharmacy assistant working at Williams Drug Store and Jones Drug Store.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Stovall United Methodist Church by Rev. John Yount. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park in Oxford.

Surviving is her son, Armstead “Junior” Wilkerson and wife, Kathy, of Stovall, a sister, Flora Peed of Rougemont; a brother, Herbert Oakley of Stovall; two granddaughters, Jennifer Wilkerson of Oxford and Prissy Wilson of Bullock; two grandsons, Jonathan K. Wilkerson and wife, Melissa, of Oxford, and Chad Wilson of Stovall; a great-granddaughter, Jordan Paige Wilkerson; three great-grandsons, Dylan Wilkerson, Austin Wilkerson and Mason Tuck; and a special niece, Emmie Lou Wilson of Oxford. She was preceded in death by a brother, Leman Oakley.

Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:45 p.m., Thursday, March 28, 2013, in the fellowship hall of Stovall United Methodist Church, and other times at 211 Wilson Town Road in Stovall.

HENDERSON — Teresa Bullock, 45, of 729 Daniel St., Henderson, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

VANCE COUNTY — Pearl Louise Coleman, 78, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Durham Regional Hospital.

Leroy J. Crosson

VANCE COUNTY — Elder Leroy Junious Crosson, 51, 139 Catherine Lane died March 22, 2013, at Duke Medical Center.

He was born in Vance County and the son of Annie Rose Harris Krider and the late Samuel Wilson Crosson. He attended the Vance County Public Schools and joined New Bethel Baptist Church at an early age. He was employed with ETC until death. He joined Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church, where he became a deacon.
Later, he was licensed as a minister in 2010 and then joined Got Truth International Church of Eagles.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 29, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church by Apostle Deborah Williams. Burial will follow in Blacknall Cemetery.

Survivors include: his wife, Carrie Hendricks Crosson of the home; his mother, Annie Krider of Charlotte; four children, Jessica Crosson of Charlotte, Tracey Kingsberry and Gortez Dunston, both of Henderson, and Marteza Lee of Fayetteville; three sisters, Clara L. Crosson and Tanisha S. Crosson, both of Henderson, and Tarsha P. Crosson of Oxford; nine brothers, John W. Brown, Andrew Crosson, Charles Crosson, all of Charlotte, S. Bernard Crosson, Kim Crosson, Williard Harris Crosson, all of Henderson, Govan Crosson of Richmond, Va., Taza Satterwhite of Chapel Hill and Jamil Crosson of Franklinton; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, March, 28, 2013, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence. The body will be on view Thursday, starting at noon, and again at the church one hour before the service. Online condolences may be expressed at

Kenneth L. Jones

HENDERSON — Kenneth L. Jones, 46, a resident of 204 Green Meadow Lane, Henderson, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

He was the son of the late Louis and Lucy Speed Jones.
Kenneth was a 1986 graduate of J.F. Webb High School in Oxford, where he was a member of the ROTC, and was a bus driver. He worked as a truck driver for over 20 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Tondra Peace Jones; one brother, James Jones of Oxford; three sisters, Lillie Mae Mitchell and Betty Rose Bryant, both of Oxford, and Michelle Henderson of Middleburg.

Funeral services will be conducted today, at 2 p.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. James Hester and the Rev. William Black. Interment will follow in the Meadowview Memorial Park Cemetery.

A viewing was held Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the funeral home.
