Earle G. Edmonds

HENDERSON — Earle Grey Edmonds, age 58, of Henderson, and formerly of South Hill, Va., died Saturday, March 23, 2013, in Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

He was a supervisor for Air Control Corp in Henderson.

He was predeceased by his parents, Virginia Edmonds Thompson and Darrell Edmonds; and a brother, Harper Edmonds. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Writtenberry Edmonds; his son, David Earle Edmonds and wife, Leah, of Fort Myers, Fla.; three daughters, Jennifer and Heather Edmonds, both of Raleigh, and Cynthia Edmonds of Boone; a special gift from God — two grandsons, Ethan Grey Edmonds of Fort Myers, Fla., and Tristan Watson of Raleigh; two sisters, Irene Knowles and husband, Rickey, of Baldwyn, Miss., and Faye Moore of Goldsboro; his twin brother, Gerald Edmonds of South Hill, Va.; his sister-in-law, Mildred Edmonds of South Hill, Va.; and several loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Monday, March 25, 2013, at 6 p.m., in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory in South Hill, Va. The family received friends beginning one hour before the service at the funeral home.

John B. Overby

HENDERSON — John Bernard “J.B.” Overby, 81, of 555 Wayview Road, Henderson, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at a local nursing home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Sam and Dora Holmes Overby.

Mr. Overby was a retired supervisor, after 41 years with Vance County Schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Hedgepeth.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Rebecca Lassiter “Becky” Overby; a daughter, Susan O. Oakley and husband, “B.J.,” of Franklinton; two sons, Johnny B. Overby and wife, Kay, of Henderson and Ricky W. Overby of Kittrell; two sisters, Nellie O. Shearin of Lake Gaston, Va., and Elizabeth O. Kearney of Henderson; six grandchildren, Tyler Overby, Jennifer Overby, Jonathan Overby, Amber Neal, Christian Oakley and Alexis Oakley; and two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Spencer and Camden Somerville. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel O. Smith, Annie O. Edwards and Gladys O. Parrish; and a brother, Wilbert Overby.

The family will receive friends today, from 7- 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 555 Wayview Road, Henderson.

James R. Stallings

WARRENTON — James Rogers “Jimmy” Stallings, age 80, a resident of Magnolia Gardens in Warren County, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Magnolia Gardens.

Born in Warren County on Aug. 1, 1932, he was the son of the late Joe Stallings and Hope Bell Stallings. He served in the North Carolina National Guard and was a retired truck driver for C. S. Henry Trucking Co. He was a member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church in Hollister.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Steve Conerly and Pastor Russ Collins. Burial will follow in Gardner’s Baptist Church Cemetery in Macon.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy S. Walker and husband, Darrell, and Janice S. Shearin and husband, Sammy, all of Roanoke Rapids; two sons, Tony Stallings and wife, Becky of Littleton and Alan Stallings of Roanoke Rapids; one sister, Christine S. Shaw of Macon; one brother, Robert Stallings of Macon; and three grandchildren, Candace Morgan, Dustin Walker and Wes Shearin; a special niece, Faye Newell of Oxford; a special sister-in-law, Lib Stallings of Louisburg; the mother of his children, Sylvia Stallings of Roanoke Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ella Stallings, Thelma Aycock and Ruby King; and one brother, Joe Stallings.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m., at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Kathy and Darrell Walker at 533 Maple Street, in Roanoke Rapids.

Serving as pall bearers will be Vince Edwards, Tony Edwards, Mike Aycock, Chris Stallings, W. G. Pike and Fred Duke.

Roy Cox

BULLOCK — Roy Cox, 81, a longtime resident of Granville County, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Universal Healthcare in Oxford.

A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Fred and Lena Reagan Cox. He was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.

Funeral services will be conducted at Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Johnny Yount. Burial will be in Grassy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Bullock.

Survivors include two sisters, Adell C. Pulliam of Virgilina and Margaret C. Newton of Oxford; and a brother, Bennie Lee Cox of Oxford. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maudie C. Thomas; and a brother, Willie Cox.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to the Megan Bunn Fund.

Visitation will be held today in the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of his sister.

Dorothy G. Perry

WENDELL — Dorothy Glover Perry, 87, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Warren Hills Nursing Center.

Perry was a Zebulon native, born to the late William Oliver and Loraine Rhodes Glover, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Horace C. Perry.

She was a member of Wendell Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was past N.C. Worth Grand Matron from 1986-1987.

Graveside services will be conducted Friday, March 29, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Greenmont Cemetery in Wendell.

Perry is survived by her son, William H. Perry of Macon; her sister, Cleo G. Perry of Zebulon; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the Wendell Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
