Eugene M. Barnes

HENDERSON — Eugene Melvin Barnes, 81, of 595 Poplar Creek Road, Henderson, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at a local nursing home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late John Barnes and Lucille Kittrell Barnes.

Mr. Barnes was a retired convenience store operator. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Hermon United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 24, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Hermon United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Haddock.

Surviving are a niece, Cherie Barnes of Lexington, S.C.; a nephew, John Barnes and wife, Vickie, of Henderson; a great-niece Ella Frances Barnes; and a great-nephew, John Austin Barnes. He was preceded in death by a sister Rebecca Catherine Barnes and a brother John Edison Barnes.

The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hermon United Methodist Church, c/o Florence Pernell, 3144 Dabney Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

Rebecca M. Banks

CREEDMOOR — Rebecca McFarland Banks, a longtime resident of Wilton, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Durham Regional Hospital.

A native of Durham County, she was the daughter of the late James Robert and Virginia Landon McFarland. She was of the Baptist faith and was medically retired.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 25, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.

Survivors include her husband, Donny Lyon Whitfield, of the home; and her father, Billy Whitfield of Creedmoor.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 25, 2013, from 12:30-2 p.m., in the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.

Tommie S. Franklin

OXFORD — Tommie S. Franklin, 84, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Lexington.

He was born July 19, 1928, in Granville County, to the late Luther David and Ada Carden Franklin. He was a retired engineer for American Olean and a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran.

Franklin spent much of his time playing cards and hosting card games. He was also a long-time Nascar racing fan.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday March 24, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oxford by the Rev. Keith Williams.

Franklin was preceded in death by his sister, Rhea Roth. Survivors include his two sons, David Warren Franklin of Jackson and John Samuel Franklin of Smyrna; his daughter, Gina Freeman of Greenwood, Miss.; a brother, John Franklin of Durham; two sisters, Mary Alice Jones and Minnie Mae Franklin of Durham; four grandchildren, Laura, Kimberly, William Franklin and Hillary Freeman; and two great-grandchildren.

The Franklin family is under the care of Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford.

Priscilla R. Johnson

WARREN COUNTY — Priscilla R. Johnson, 86 of Durham, (formerly of Warren County) died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Carver Living Center in Durham.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.


David H. Lemay

HENDERSON — David Henry Lemay, 58, of 457 Lemay Lane. Henderson, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 26, 1954, in Kittrell, to the Late Joseph Nathan Lemay and Clara Solomon Lemay.

He was educated in Vance County Public Schools and worked on a farm for most of his life.

Funeral services will be held today, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Concord Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include: his wife, Margaret Alexander Lemay of Norlina; two daughters, Claralon Lemay Green of Manson and Tiffany Lemay of Warrenton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren: three sisters: Betty Lemay and Gloria Jean Perry, both of Henderson, and Patricia Lemay Jones of Warrenton; and four brothers: Joseph Lemay, Jerry Lemay, Michael Lemay and Morgan Lemay, all of Henderson.

A viewing took place Friday, March 22, 2013, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home.

The family is receiving friends at 215 Lemay Lane, Henderson.
