Geo. A. “Dick” Yancey

HENDERSON — George Allen “Dick” Yancey, 80, of 200 Dick Yancey Lane, Henderson, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Born in South Boston, Va., he was the son of the late George Harvey Yancey and Mary Terry Yancey.

Mr. Yancey was the retired owner and president of Dick Yancey Trucking Company, Inc. He was a charter member of Saint Andrews United Methodist Church in Raleigh, the James B. Green Masonic Lodge # 735 AF & AM, the Henderson York Rite Bodies, Allied Masonic Degrees, the Scottish Rite Bodies (32nd Degree), Amran Temple (charter member), Wake County Shrine Club, Henderson Shrine Club, the Granville County Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters and the Henderson Moose Lodge.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 11 a.m., at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will follow at 2 p.m. in Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston, Va.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Lena Culley Yancey; four daughters, Cindy Y. Wilson of Garner, Tammy Y. Putz of Raleigh, Patsy Y. Wiley and husband, Ted, of Raleigh, and Mamie Y. Harris and husband, Jeff, of Willow Spring; a sister, Lois Y. Hite of Smithfield; two brothers, Crafton Yancey of Pollocksville and Harvey Yancey of Winterville; five grandchildren, Laura Gilchrist and husband, Josh, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kaylena Putz of Raleigh, Heather Carden and husband, Josh, of Raleigh, Patrick Wiley of Raleigh and Ashton Harris of Willow Spring; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Gilchrist of Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda G. Yancey; and a brother, Wayne Yancey.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 200 Dick Yancey Lane, Henderson.

Masons will serve as active pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted; or memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Amran Temple, 11101 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC 27614.

R. A. Keith Jr.

CREEDMOOR — R. A. “Roy” Keith Jr., 70, a lifetime resident of Granville County, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Roy Alexander Keith Sr. and Virginia Horton Keith. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, a retired tobacco farmer, operator of Tar River Fox Pen and was on the board of directors with Farm Bureau.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at 11 a.m., in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Jim Shelley and the Rev. Steve Brown. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Betty Allgood Keith of the home; a daughter, Geraldine T. Hardy of Stem; two sons, Edwin Tillotson and Roy Alexander Keith III, both of Oxford; a brother, Tommy Keith of Creedmoor; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Allen Tillotson.

Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, from 9:30-11 a.m., prior to the funeral service at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.

William Lassiter

NORLINA — William “Butler” Lassiter died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

He was born Sept. 10, 1932, the youngest of 14 children, to William and Cora Webb Lassiter in the Oine community of Norlina.

At an early age, he joined Chapel Hill Baptist Church.
He was educated in Warren County Public Schools where he attended Warren County Training School.

For years he worked as a farmer and a gardener on the Rooker Dairy Farm, beginning when he was still a young child. Even after losing the use of his left arm as a teenager, he continued to farm, cook and work in the garden until his health declined.

Survivors include: one daughter, Brenda L. Bagley of Vance County; two grandchildren; and one sister: Juanita Branch of Raleigh.

In addition to his mother and father, Lassiter was preceded in death by his 12 siblings, Sue, Laura, Georgia, Elizabeth, Betty, Henrietta, Macon, June, Charles, Grey, Robert and Will.

The funeral service will be conducted today, at 1 p.m., from Chapel Hill Baptist Church in the Oine community of Warren County. The Rev. Mary M. Stinett, pastor, will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The body may be viewed today at the church one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to R. H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Shirley D. White

KITTRELL — Shirley Lee Davis White, 77, of 260 Lynnbank Estate Road, Kittrell, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

The family will be receiving friends at the residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Davis-Royster Funeral Service.
