Pettis S. Cutts

OXFORD — Pettis Stuart Cutts, 83, a lifetime resident of Granville County, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Meadowview Terrace in Clarksville, Va.

A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Uriah Pettis and Gladys Campbell Cutts. He was of the Methodist faith and a retired tobacco auctioneer for 35 years.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m., in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Randy Baisey. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Surviving are four daughters, Pam Cutts Mihalik of Ormond Beach, Fla., Cheri Cutts Hart of Oxford, Melba Cutts Baker of Clarksville, Va., and Cynthia Cutts Tucker of Richmond, Va., a son, Michael C. Cutts of South Hill, Va., 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Katie Suitt Cutts; his daughter, Debbie C. Stallings; and a sister, Nancy C. Patteson.

Visitation will take place Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, 12:30-2 p.m., prior to the memorial service at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Randy and Cheri Hart, 2553 Enon Road, Oxford, NC 27565.

Eugene A. Daniel Sr.

HENDERSON — Eugene Allan “Gene” Daniel Sr., 73, of 1306 Pool Rock Road, Henderson, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at his home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late James Madison Daniel and Louise Ellington Daniel.

Daniel was a retired ranger with the North Carolina State Parks. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association and the Henderson Moose Lodge.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 1 p.m., at Rock Spring Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Gary Brummitt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Bishop Daniel; two sons, Brian Daniel of Henderson and Allan Daniel Jr. of Oxford; a daughter, Muffin Short of Henderson; a sister, Mae Vaughan of Norlina; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Brame and William Brame.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 1306 Pool Rock Road, Henderson.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Wilson, Ernie Wilson, Jimmy Twisdale, Brad Weatherington, David Reese, Jimmy Crawford III, Billy Borst, Mike Brooks and Harvey Tyson.

Deyon W. Durham

VANCE COUNTY — Deyon Wallace Durham, 24, of Vance County, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.

Born Aug. 11, 1988, Durham attended Vance County Schools. He spent much of his free time with his children.

Survivors include: his parents, William Wallace Durham Jr. and Shelia Macon; his children, Jaden Davis of the home and Deyon Michael Davis of Henderson; his sisters, Shonta Durham and Shanetta Durham, both of Henderson; his brothers, Keyon Durham, Shaun Durham, Alonzo Durham, Rakeem Durham Domonique Durham, all of Henderson; and his grandfather.

Several relatives preceded him in death, including both of his grandparents.

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Rowland Chapel Christian Church, with burial to follow at Blacknall Cemetery.

Two viewings are scheduled: one for today, from 2-7 p.m., at Lori Chappell Funeral Home of Henderson, and a second at the church one hour prior to the service.

Karl Hicks

WARRENTON — Karl “Ricky” Hicks, 57, of 308 Bute St., Warrenton, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Survivors include: his wife, Barbara LeMay Hicks of Kittrell; two sons, Jamaal and Karl Hicks of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Linda Hicks of Warrenton; three brothers, Haywood Hicks of Jamaica, N.Y., William Powell of Chesapeake, Va., and Larry Highs of Warrenton; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton. Evangelist Rebecca Somerville will officiate.

The body will be on view today, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

Zollie Perry Jr.

HENDERSON — Zollie Perry Jr., 80, of 1995 Frances Ave., Henderson, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on April 23, 1932, in Vance County to the late Ruby Holden young and Zollie Perry Sr. He was educated in the Vance County School System, graduating from Henderson Institute in 1955. After that, he served as an MP in the army during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge. He later was employed with Lauren’s Glass where he retired after 30 years.

He was a member of Welcome Chapel Baptist Church, serving as chairman of the Trustee Board and as a member of the male chorus.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Welcome Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Sain Silver officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah McKnight Perry; five daughters, Brenda Foster, Connie Rogers, Samantha Davis and Wanda Perry, all of Henderson, and Jennifer Perry of Roanoke Rapids; four sons, Michael and Gregory Perry, both of Henderson, Zollie Perry III of Raleigh and Dennis Allen of Clayton; one sister, Elizabeth Blacknall; one brother, Eugene Young Sr.; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will take place today, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Ervin Roberts

WARRENTON — Ervin Roberts, 79, of 2190 Warren Plains Road in Warrenton, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Warren Hills Nursing Facility in Warrenton.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Roanoke Chapel United Church of Christ in Palmer Springs, Va. The Rev. McCray, pastor, will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends today, from 7-8 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

Lisa L. Stainback

OXFORD — Lisa Lassiter Stainback, 45, a resident of 500 Prospect Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Granville Medical Center.

Born Aug. 1, 1967, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Rosevelt Lassiter Jr. and Barbara Vernelle Johnson Lassiter. She was medically retired.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 11 a.m., in the Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery by Pastor Carl L. Campbell.

She is survived by two daughters, Ashley Danielle Woodruff of Florida and Brandy Nicole Stainback of Henderson; a sister, Patricia Dianne Anderson of Henderson; and a brother, Calvin Wayne Lassiter of Henderson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Lassiter.

The family will receive friends today, from 4-8 p.m., at the home of Patricia Dianne Anderson at 442 Lightwood Lane in the Sagefield community, and immediately following the graveside service at Union Chapel United Methodist Church.
