George W. Pegram Sr.

HENDERSON — Mr. George Wheeler Pegram Sr., age 76, a resident of 905 Daniel Harris Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Duke Regional Hospital.

Born on Feb. 22, 1937, in Vance County, he was the son of the late William Elmus Pegram and Lucy Harris Pegram. He was a retired tobacco farmer and member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Julia Alliger. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Pegram is survived by his wife, Carolyn Roberson Pegram of the home; a son, George Wheeler Pegram Jr. and wife Amanda of Henderson; a daughter, Michelle Pegram Adcock and husband Kenneth of Henderson; a granddaughter, Kennedy Ashton Adcock; three brothers, William Pegram and wife Beulah, Gray Pegram and wife Betty Lou, and Jerry Pegram and wife Susan Jo, all of Henderson; and three sisters, Mary Alice Abbott and husband J.T. of Henderson, Rose Floyd and husband Eugene of Durham and Peggy Pegram of Henderson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lottie Collier and Rachel Abbott.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.

Serving as active pallbearers will be William Ray Abbott, Jessie Ray Pegram, Allen Pegram, Ronnie Pegram, Randy Pegram, Franklin Floyd, Brad Pegram, Daniel Pegram, Keith Abbott, Kenneth Abbott, Tony Collier and Kevin Collier.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, c/o Ruth Moss, 1705 Allison Cooper Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

Charles W. Crowder

HENDERSON — Mr. Charles Wesley Crowder died Dec. 11, 2013, at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born in South Hill, Va., on Jan. 17, 1924, he was the son of the late James A. Crowder and Sarah J. Roberts Crowder. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Crowder was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 79 in South Hill, Va. He retired from the former A&P Grocery Store, where he worked as a meat cutter.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at Flat Rock United Methodist Church by Rev. Cathy Hoyle. A graveside service with military honors will follow in Orange United Methodist Church Cemetery in Chapel Hill at 2 p.m.

Mr. Crowder is survived by his wife, Jean Clark Crowder of the home; a daughter, Trudy Tudor and husband Brantley of Scotland Neck; a son, Kenneth Charles Crowder and wife Melinda of Pittsboro; a grandson, Charles Tudor and wife Tracey of Raleigh; two great-grandsons, Alexander and Eric; and a brother, Samuel G. Crowder of Suffolk, Va.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Flat Rock United Methodist Church.

OXFORD — Louise Gooch Adcock, 96, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at her residence.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Hester Baptist Church by Rev. Alex Gallimore and Rev. Irvin Adcock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, prior to the service in the church parlor.

OXFORD — Winston Churchill Adcock, 70, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford by Rev. Gene Wood.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 14, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his daughter. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.

STATESVILLE — Nicole C. Bowen, 36, of 55 Myers Lane, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at her home.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Dexter Baptist Church by Rev. Wayne Clark.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service and at other times at the home of Betty Cade, 705 Gun Club Road, Lot 8, Henderson.
