Jester Williams, Jr.

HENDERSON — Jester Williams, Jr, 59, of Swain Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, in Henderson.

He was born Sept. 3, 1954, to the late Jester Williams, Sr., and Henrietta G. Williams in Vance County.

He graduated from Vance Senior High, class of 1974. At an early age, he joined Calvary Temple Holy Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara C. Williams of Henderson; three children, Brian Williams of Atlanta, Ga., Jester Williams III of Norlina, and Ceria Williams of Henderson; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Jones of Durham.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, at Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church by Rev. William Brodie.

Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

George W. Davis, Jr.

INEZ — George William Davis, Jr., 81, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Mary Fleming Davis for 59 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Davis, Sr., and Eleanor Powell Davis.

Mr. Davis was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. He attended Augusta Military Academy, served in the U.S. military and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a retired farmer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, George William Davis III of Raleigh; his daughters, Susan Davis Riggan and husband, Glenn, of Macon, and Virginia Davis Kirby and husband, Greg, of Henderson; his sister, Sara Davis Koontz of Burlington; a dear cousin, Margaret Davis Rooker of Inez; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Revs. Steve Mullenix, Debbie Matthis and Herbert Charles Davis will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Macy F. Harris

HENDERSON — Macy Fenner Harris, 87, of 1658 Warrenton Road, Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at his home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Zollie Coffer Harris and Lula Ayscue Harris.

Mr. Harris was a former salesman at Ellis Motor Company. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and was a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church and the Henderson Moose Lodge. He was an avid golfer.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, in Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.

Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Emma Hilliard Harris; a son, Ronald A. Harris and wife Tammy of Henderson; a grandson, Dustin Ty Harris of Henderson; four step-grandchildren, Brandon Bowling and wife Amy of Franklin County, Donald Squires and wife Bobbie Jo of Wake County, Diane Dean of Wake Forest, and Misty Edwards and husband Kale of Franklinton; and five step-great-grandchildren, Donovan Dean, Gavin Edwards, Graycen Bowling, Emerson Edwards, and Aubree Bowling.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wayne Harris; four sisters, Odell H. Moody, Pattie H. Moore, Irene H. Blanks, and Susie H. Moss; and five brothers, Zollie T. Harris Sr., Jesse Lee Harris, William J. Harris, Dorsey W. Harris, and Hardy H. Harris.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1658 Warrenton Road, Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1699 Weldon’s Mill Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

BUTNER — Treva H. Barbour, 88, of Butner, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Summit Place in Little River, S.C.

HENDERSON — William Rancher “Bill” Bowes, 82, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, at J.M. White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Patricia Adcock, 661 Lakeview Drive.

Judy P. McCorkle Brogden

CREEDMOOR — Judy Priscilla McCorkle Brogden, 74, of Wake County, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at the home of her daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by Rev. Jack Moody.

Burial will be in the Creedmoor-Rogers Cemetery in Creedmoor.

Visitation will be held from 12:30–1:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, prior to the funeral service at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times the home of her daughter, Fran Tunstall.

Craig Harris

WARRENTON — Craig Harris, 57, of 313 North Bute Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at his residence.

A funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Full Gospel Faith Ministries by Pastor Joseph M. Cook. Burial followed in United Solid Rock Memorial Gardens.

Viewing was on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the church for one hour prior to the service.

MANSON — Lavert Henderson, 94, of 135 Mason Rd., Manson, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at her residence.
