Joseph H. Cash Sr.

HENDERSON — Joseph Howard Cash Sr., 69, of 2839 Southerland Mill Road, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, in a local nursing home.

Born in Granville County, he was the son of the late James Samuel and Juanita Champion Cash. Mr. Cash was retired from Loyd Plumbing Company and was a member of First Congregational Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. George Williams. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Annie Parker Cash; two daughters, Donna C. Peele and Sharon C. West, both of Henderson; a son, Joseph H. Cash Jr. and wife Diane of Henderson; a sister, Mary C. Longmire of Knightdale; three brothers, Roy Cash and wife Esther of Battleboro, William Cash and wife Sheila of Henderson, and Randy Cash and wife Crystal of Henderson; eight grandchildren, Brittany Peele, Jesse Peele, Billy Peele, Kristen Cash, Samantha Cash, Michelle Graves, Dylan Graves and Autumn Outlaw; and two great-grandchildren, Landon Grissom and Hunter Peele.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rebecca C. Allen, Annie C. Cox and Dorothy C. Newton, and three brothers, James Cash Jr., Walter Cash and Joe Cash.

The family will receive friends today, May 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times they will be at the home of Sharon West, 3931 Weldon’s Mill Road, Henderson.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Roy Cash, William Cash, Randy Cash, James Cash, Jesse Peele and Shane Peele.

Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

 

Leonard A. Derr

HENDERSON — Leonard “Lenny” Allen Derr, age 78, a resident of 1305 Parham St., died peacefully in his home on May 28, 2014.

He was born June 9, 1935, the son of Malcolm and Frances Derr. Lenny was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Before moving from New York in 2002, he was an avid woodworker. Lenny was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Henderson.

A service of witness to the resurrection will be held on Monday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Keith Benze.

Lenny is survived by his wife of 27 years, Becki; four sons, Randall Derr of South Carolina, Allen and Douglas Derr of New York and Richard Kissel of Oklahoma; and five daughters, Brenda Baker and Melanie Klem of North Carolina, Bobbi Jean Markley of Alabama, and Melissa and Gretchen Miller of South Carolina. He also had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Monday in the parlor at First Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the music program at First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 726, Henderson, NC 27536.

DURHAM — Lizzie Alston-Dunston, 59, died Saturday, May 24, 2014.

Arrangements will be announced by Cutchins Funeral Home in Franklinton.

 

Andrew L. Evans

HENDERSON — Andrew Lee Evans, 74, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Duke Medical Center.

The family is receiving visitors at 230 Big Buck Road.

Jerry L. Frazier

OXFORD — Jerry Lynn Frazier, 67, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Mountain Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Lemar Wheeler, the Rev. Sam Brewer and the Rev. Johnny Richards. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation is today, May 30, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Benjamin and Tanya Frazier.

Samuel Hayes Sr.

HENDERSON — Samuel Hayes Sr., 72, of 615 Rowland St., died Friday, May 23, 2014, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, May 31, at Ministers Outreach Tabernacle.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. today, May 30, in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Minnie Lewis

LOUISBURG — Minnie Lewis, 91, formerly of Warren County, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Ida B. Pittmann

HENDERSON — Ida Buchanan Pittman, 77, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at a local nursing home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Middleburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Sam Brewer.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. At other times they will be at the home of Eddie Garland, 1867 Bearpond Road, Henderson.

HENDERSON — Lucille Evans Solomon, 85, of 583 Opie Frazier Road, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at her residence.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Mitchell Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 31, in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.
