Joey A. Gupton

TIMBERLAKE — Joey Allen Gupton, 29, of 221 Deer Creek Lane, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.

Born in Vance County on June 1, 1984, he was the son of Deborah Harris Roberson and David Allen Gupton, both of Henderson.

He was a tattoo artist and owner and operator of Fine Line Tattoo.

No services are planned.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kameron Patterson Gupton; son, Dustin Alexander Haines; stepfather Scott Roberson; sister, Heather Gupton; maternal grandmother, Ruby Harris; maternal grandfather, Ivey L. Harris; paternal grandmother, Virginia Gupton; niece, Karissa Mae Moss; and special cousin, April Abbott, all of Henderson.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Alvin Gupton.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the home of Ruby Harris, 822 Eastside Drive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joey Gupton Funeral Fund, c/o J.M. White Funeral Home, 60 Zeb Robinson Rd., Henderson, NC 27536.

George C. Hughes Jr.

HENDERSON — George Carroll Hughes Jr., 92, of 141 Garrett Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Robert Samuel Hughes and Lessie Abbott Hughes. He was the widower of Lessie Jackson Hughes.

Mr. Hughes was a retired farmer. He was a U.A. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Sunset Gardens conducted by Dr. Al James.

Surviving are two daughters, Deborah H. Maddox and husband, Robert, and Pamela A. Hughes; and a granddaughter, Michelle E. Grissom, all of Henderson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Essie H. Parham and Elsie H. Clayborne; and five brothers, James Batt Hughes, Emmett Hughes Sr., Hollis Hughes, Fenner Hughes, and Furman Hughes.

The family will receive friends at the home of Deborah and Robert Maddox, 602 Rock Mill Road.

Rosa Small

OXFORD — Rosa Small, 73, of 607 Thomas Street, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Small Williams, of Oxford; four sons, Warren Small, David Small and Calvin Small, all of Henderson, and Tony Small, of Clayton; a sister, Alma Joanne Hargrove, Newport News, Va.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Wright Funeral Home.

The body will be on view Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

HENDERSON — Jan-Michael Vincent-Gray Lassiter, 29, of 106 Gwynn Pond Lane, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Blessed Hope Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home, at 106 Gwynn Pond Lane.
