Joyce J. Compton

TOWNSVILLE — Joyce Joanne Cloer Compton, age 69, a resident of 3185 Tungsten Mine Road, left this world to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Born June 18, 1944, in Bryson City, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cloer and Violet Joyce Thomas Parrish.

She was medically retired from Pacific Coast Feathers and was a member of Tungsten Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Tungsten Baptist Church by the Rev. Sam Brewer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Joyce is survived by her long-time companion, Harold Brame, and was the proud mother of her three sons, Mack Compton and wife Sandra of California, Dwayne Compton and wife Beth of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Jesse Compton and wife Donna of Missouri. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Casey, Lacey, Lindsey, Joshua, Lily, Brandon, Brett and Brandi; one great-grandchild, Braxton; and her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her children’s father, Howard Compton.

The family will receive friends today, May 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 3185 Tungsten Mine Road.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Josh Compton, Raymond Harrison, Jerry Reaves, Jackie Overby, Bruce Crews and Todd Adcock.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Tungsten Baptist Church, P.O. Box 703, Henderson, NC 27536.

OXFORD — Mary Elizabeth Allen, 78, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014.

A funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Ray Allsberry. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be Friday, May 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

OXFORD — Thelma McGee, 94, of 3079 Sterl Carrington Road, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at Brantwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Huntsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Latta. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

YOUNGSTOWN — Ernest T. Overby, 54, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Empowerment Center in Oxford.

Dorothy Watson

OXFORD — Dorothy “Dot” Watson died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at West Oxford Baptist Church by the Rev. Wes Garner. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
