Pauline T. Cheatham
OXFORD — Pauline Thomasson Cheatham, age 91, died Dec. 3, 2012, at her home.
She was a native of Granville County and the daughter of the late Leo Bartrell and Sadie Averett Thomasson. Pauline was the wife of the late Sherwood Hester Cheatham.
Pauline retired from Pine State Creamery in Henderson and was a lifelong member of Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church in Kittrell.
Funeral services will be conducted today, at 11 a.m., in Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Brooks. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Cheatham and wife, Becky, of Oxford; daughter, Kay Yancey and husband, Marty, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Karman Dubois and husband, Chris, of New Orleans, La., Kevin Cheatham and wife, Bonnie, of Henderson, David Yancey and wife, Stephanie, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Heather Scherer, Rebecca Dubois, Devon Dubois, Christina Walker, Justin Walker, Mia Yancey, Ella Yancey and Lila Yancey; and brother, Nelson Thomasson and wife, Edna Mae, of Oxford. She was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Dement and Selma Paschall; and brother, Woodrow W. Thomasson.
The family received friends Wednesday night, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.

Ellen M. Kane
HENDERSON — Ellen Coxe Merritt Kane, 93, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at The Heritage in Raleigh on Dec. 4, 2012.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Church of The Apostles, 333 Church At North Hills St., Raleigh. Friends may visit with the family following the service. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Kane; granddaughter, Megan Kane; and great-grandson, Gabriel Currin; and two brothers, John H. Merritt and W. Joseph Merritt.
Born in Person County on Nov. 6, 1919, she was the daughter of John H. Merritt and Ellen Belle Coxe. After graduating from Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, she taught school in Person County.
Following her marriage, she devoted her life to her family, and various church and civic activities. She lived in Henderson until May of this year when she moved to The Heritage in Raleigh.
Ellen enjoyed the outdoors, especially birds and gardening, and had a beautiful yard. She was an avid golfer, once recording an ace at Henderson Country Club. Ellen was a frequent traveler and had the privilege to travel across the globe during her life.
She is survived by two sisters, Nancy Allen and Mary Elizabeth Winstead; three sons, George W. Kane III and wife, Lisa, John M. Kane and wife, Willa, Charles B. Kane and wife, Audrey; and grandchildren, Eden, Bryan, William, John, Greyson, Drake and Lauren; and great-grandchildren, John, Stratton and Julia.
The family is especially grateful to the loving care provided by Avarina London, Tnsie Tesfamichael and Winnie Kariuki.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Mary Etta Ashe died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, in San Antonio Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., at Union AME Zion Church, in Wilton.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Frank A. Burton
HENDERSON — Frank Alvin Burton, 94, of 1001 Beacon Ave., Henderson, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at his residence.
He was born May 29, 1918, to the late John E. Burton and Catherine White Burton in Vance County.
He joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member until his death. He worked for Burkart Carolina Plant in Henderson for many years until his retirement.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Manson, with Dr. Richard M. Henderson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie Rose Clark Burton of the home; two daughters, Marjorie B. Royster of Henderson and Audrey Townes of Middleburg; six sons, Frank Burton Jr., Ellis Burton, George Burton, William Burton, John Henry Burton and Sylvester Burton, all of Henderson; 15 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held today, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service Friday.
The family is receiving friends at the residence.

OXFORD — James E. Bumpass, 64, a resident of 7063 Old W. Lane, Oxford, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Universal Health Care in Oxford.

Jessie J. Davis
OXFORD — Jessie “Jack” Junior Davis, 77, a resident of 211 Garden Park Drive, Oxford, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at UNC-Chapel Hill Hospitals.
Survivors include; children, Jessie Davis, George M. Davis, Alexander Davis, Patricia Harden, Dallas O. Williams, Cornelius Williams, Alphonzo Williams, John H. Lewis, Mack E. Lewis, James C. Lewis, Virginia Young, Angela Fajri and Jerry A. Lewis; and two sisters, Helen McCaden and Mary Lee Downey.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Amazing Grace Ministries with a eulogy delivered by Bishop Albert Hairston. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A viewing will take place Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Mary A. Daye
HENDERSON — Mary Ashe Daye, 89, of 3007 Bryans Hill Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation in Henderson.
She was the daughter of the late Lottie Bell Green and Charlie Willie Ashe Sr.
She was educated in the Granville County Schools and joined Union Chapel AME Zion Church where she served as church secretary for many years and served as an usher, and she also sung in the senior choir.
Mary worked at John Umstead Hospital in Butner, where she retired with many years of dedicated service.
She was married to Alfred John Daye for 45 years before his death.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 3 p.m., at Union Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Allen Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Daye is survived by a son, Lincoln Stafford Daye of Oxford; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The body will be on view Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, from 3-6 p.m.

WARRENTON — Georgia Exum, 86, of 150 Ridgeway Warrenton Road in Warrenton, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at her residence.
Funeral services are incomplete at this time, but will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.
Mary E. Green
NORFOLK, Va. — Mary Nell Eaves Green, 96, a former resident of 238 West Balview Ave, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Burlington.
Born in Vance County on Dec. 11, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charlie O. Eaves and Addie Lou Ayscue Eaves. She was a retired elementary school teacher, a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher’s Sorority, and a member of Miles Memorial Methodist Church in Norfolk, Va.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Liberty Christian Church by the Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Va., by the Rev. John Haynes.
She is survived by her daughter, Edith G. Pierce of Cary, two grandchildren, and one great-grandson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fulton M. Green; and her daughter, Mary Lou Green.
The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m., at Liberty Christian Church.
