HENDERSON — Mildred McCall Matthews Welch, 93, of 127 White Oak Drive, Henderson, died Saturday, June 1, 2013.

Born Dec. 15, 1919, in Louisburg, she was the daughter of the late Lula Spencer Matthews and Hammitt “Ham” Matthews. She attended school in Louisburg and graduated from Franklin County High School.

Mildred was married Dec. 24, 1938, to Thomas Brantley Welch, who preceded her in death Feb. 7, 2011. Mildred and her husband were very active members of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. They seldom missed a Sunday going to Sunday school and church. She loved her neighbors, especially all the children in the neighborhood. Each child could expect a treat any time they came to her door, as well as a gift at Christmas. She and Tommy were the “neighborhood watch” anytime anyone went out of town. They were truly interested in the welfare of their neighbors, always being the first to bring food when anyone was sick or had a death in the family. They had a very happy and close marriage, seldom was one seen without the other.
