William H. Brown

EDEN — Mr. William Henry “Bill” Brown, 72, of Eden, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2014, at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Brown was born in Henderson on Sept. 6, 1941, a son of Charles Carlton and Irene Ellington Brown, both deceased. He was retired as a branch manager for Citifinancial. He was a lifetime member of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church and attended St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He was an avid bicycle rider.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Lewis Brown of the home; his daughter, Catherine Espino of Kittrell; his brother, Charles Carlton Brown, and his sister, Diane Jenks and husband Tim, all of Kittrell; and by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Kristopher Jernigen.

Mr. Brown will lie in state at Boone & Cooke Inc. Funeral Home in Eden from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Feb. 21.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 507, Kittrell, NC 27544.

Curtis N. Matthews

HENDERSON — Curtis Norman Matthews, age 54, a resident of 729 Boddie Street, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at his home.

Born in Vance County on May 9, 1959, he was the son of John Junious Matthews and Dorothy Kittrell Matthews of Henderson. He was the owner and operator of Matthews Painting Company, and was a member of Freedom Life Church Of God and the Buck’s Only Hunting Club.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at noon at Freedom Life Church Of God by Rev. Jeff Prewer. Burial will follow in New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Leah Matthews of Henderson; three sons, John Curtis Matthews, Dustin Matthews and Cody Matthews of Henderson; one sister, Patricia Ann Munn of Henderson; one brother, John Robert Matthews of Henderson; two grandchildren, Chase Lloyd and Kyle Anderson; and his girlfriend, Crystal Matthews.

The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service, from 10 a.m. to noon at Freedom Life Church Of God. At other times they will be at the home of John and Dorothy Matthews at 722 Boddie Street.

Serving as active pall bearers will be Johnny Royster Jr., H.M. Pegram, Donald Ray Matthews, Tommy Tucker, Paul Manning and Eugene Parrish.

Bettie White

HENDERSON — Miss Bettie White was born on Oct. 22, 1961, in Vance County to the late Carlton William White and Channie Virginia White. She departed her life on Feb. 15, 2014.

She was a resident of Henderson.

Bettie attended Vance and Warren County schools. She was employed with J.P. Taylor and Ted’s Catering.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carlton William White, and a brother, Carlton William White Jr.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her mother, Channie Virginia White: five sisters, Catherine White, Ellen Williams and Mary Williams, all of Henderson, Regina White of Youngsville and Deborah Green of Durham; five brothers, James White, Runion White and Stacey White, all of Henderson, John White of Wilson and Phillip White of Wake Forest; a host of nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Herman Hanks.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 735 E. Rock Spring St., by Apostle C.A. Perry.

Arrangements are by Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

 

Charles Bullock

NORLINA — Charles Bullock, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Greenwood Baptist Church in Warrenton by Rev. Maggie Stinette. Interment will follow in the Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Viewing is today, Feb. 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the chapel of R.H. Greene Funeral Home in Warrenton.

A wake will be held today at Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Oine from 6 to 8 p.m and also at Greenwood Baptist Church for one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home.

 

Norman Paynter

WISE — Norman Paynter, 82, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Marie Watson

WARRENTON — Marie Watson, 82, of 204 Ridgecrest Drive, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton by Rev. Carson Jones Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends today, Feb. 21, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Boyd’s Funeral Services.
