Mildred S. Edwards

HENDERSON — Mildred Ellen Smith Edwards, 84, a resident of Kerr Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and a former resident of Moss Stock Farm Road in Kittrell, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Born in Vance County on Sept. 12, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William Jethro Smith and Lucille Andrews Smith.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Maj. and Mrs. Daniel Turner. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

She is survived by one daughter, Wendy E. Grissom of Kittrell; four grandchildren, Shannon Wilson, Kristy Horton, Beverly Sanders and Bobby Sanders; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mattie Hendricks of Henderson and Brenda Turner of Clear Spring, Md.; and one brother, Robert Smith of Stoneville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Newcomb Edwards; one son, Ronald Newcomb Edwards; five sisters, Alma Moss, Irene Bowen, Mary Lee Edwards, Ruth Moorefield and Linda Gupton; and two brothers, W.J. Smith and David Smith.

The family will receive friends Wednesday night, Feb. 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Wendy and Donnie Grissom, at 106 Moss Stock Farm.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Wayne Hendricks, Terry Hendricks, Jason Wilson and Joseph Wilson.

Richard W. Claydon

OXFORD — Richard William Claydon, age 81, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Granville House.

A native of Troy, N.Y., he was the son of the late John W. Claydon and Madalene Ralston Claydon. He was a member of Stovall United Methodist Church, one of the founders of ACIM and a former treasurer.

Richard retired from G.E. Corporation in Stamford, Conn., in 1992, after 30 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, from Stovall United Methodist Church by Rev. John Yount. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park with military honors.

Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Claydon; daughters, Michele Cash (Timothy) of Oxford and Margaret “Peggy” Claydon of Oxford; a brother, John C. Claydon of Wynantskill, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Tiffany A. Cash and Shannon Cash.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stovall United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, c/o Jean Gill, P.O. Box 1078, Oxford, NC 27565.

Dorothy W. Wilker

WARRENTON — Dorothy Davis Collier Wortham Wilker, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Warren Hills Nursing Center.

She was the daughter of the late Oliver S. and Margaret Stipp Davis.

Dot was also preceded in death by her husbands, Alfred Collier, Alford Wortham and Leonard Wilker.

Mrs. Wilker was a member of Warren Plains Baptist Church and was the owner of Crestwood Mobile Home Court.

Rev. Blake Jackson will conduct funeral services at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Blaylock Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Larry J. Collier and wife Becky Eller of Macon and A.C. Collier Sr. and wife Sue Satterthaite of Plymouth; her foster son, Buddy A. Wilker; her brother, O.S. Davis Jr. and wife Beverly of Greensboro; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry “Jason” Collier Jr., Alfred “Al” Collier Jr., Norwood Baker, Buddy Allen Wilker, Allan Adcock and Jackie Reynolds. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Collier and Arthur Simpson.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Edwin F. Moss

HENDERSON — Edwin Franklin Moss, 79, formerly of Craig Street, Henderson, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at a local nursing home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Lewis Fuller and Edith Elizabeth Renn Moss.

He devoted his life to his family and his work.

Mr. Moss retired after 60 years with Greystone Concrete Products. He attended South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Jean Allgood Moss; a daughter, Lisa M. Williamson and husband D.C. of Henderson; three sisters, Lula M. Satterwhite of Henderson, Fannie M. Pendergrass and husband John of Henderson and Betsy M. Dement of Wilton; a brother, Allan Moss and wife Esther of Henderson; and two grandsons, Dustin L. Moss and Chance Williamson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Lee M. Averette.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Lisa and D.C. Williamson, 702 Tollie Weldon Road, Henderson.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Satterwhite, Carlton Satterwhite, Wade Moss, Frank Wilder, Ray Brezinski and Nick Brezinski.

Employees and former employees of Greystone Concrete Products will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

NORLINA — Charles P. Bullock, 81, of 121 Kerr Lake-Cole Bridge Road, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

OXFORD — John Hart Sr., 64, of 6538 Huntsboro Road, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Meadowview Memorial Park.

Viewing will be Wednesday, Feb. 19, from noon to 6 p.m. at Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

CREEDMOOR — Ruth Fuller Hicks died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at her residence.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by Dr. Marc Tilley. Burial will follow in Rogers Cemetery.

Visitation will be prior to the service Thursday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church and at other times at the home.

OXFORD — Horace Stainback, 81, of 202 Wilmington Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Only Way Church of Christ by Bishop James T. Daniel. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing is today, Feb. 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Betts & Son Funeral Home.
