Anthony E. Adcox

WINTERVILLE — Anthony Eugene “Tony” Adcox, 51, passed away on Feb. 13, 2014, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice.

He was born on May 20, 1962, in Halifax County to Milton and Lucy Collier Adcox.

Tony was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his two children, Thomas Adcox and Hannah Adcox, both of Mississippi; his mother, Lucy Collier Ellis of Petersburg, Va.; three sisters, Nancy Adcox of Petersburg, Va., Debbie Stancill and husband Norman of Winterville and Penny Merhout and husband James of Petersburg, Va. He also leaves behind two nieces, Christin Mizelle, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Marissa Merhout of Farmville, Va.

Tony was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Funeral Service will be held on today, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Service in Ayden.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Estates in Grifton.

Gloria C. Long

OXFORD — Gloria Kay Crouse Long, 66, of 240 Wrenn Road (in the Watkins community) died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at her home.

Born in Durham County, she was the daughter of the late John William and Helen Emma Colclough Crouse.

She was the widow of Anthony Hugh “Tony” Long.

Mrs. Long was a former teacher’s aid and employee of the Merita Bread Store. She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Denvil Farley and Rev. Will Breedlove. Interment will be private.

Surviving are a daughter, Tammy R. Long of Oxford; a son, Anthony Shawn Long and wife Stacie of Oxford; a sister, Debra C. Freeman and husband Tony of Durham; and six grandchildren, Brandon Manning, Megan Manning, Olivia Long, Emma Long, Landon Long and Amelia Long.

The family will receive friends at the home, 240 Wrenn Road, Oxford.

Selma W. Biggs

WARRENTON — Selma Marie Williams Biggs, 63, of 1470 Perry Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today, Feb. 15, in the chapel of Boyd’s Funeral Services by Rev. James Arrington.

Pattie Harris

WARRENTON —Pattie Harris, 80, of 1560 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 15, at Spring Green Missionary Baptist Church by Elder D. Wooten. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Haywood L. Walker

HENDERSON — Haywood Lee Walker, 88, of 779 Parkway Drive, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Brian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Durham.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at St. Andrews Christian Church. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Viewing is today, Feb. 15, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends today, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the residence.

Edith H. Whitt

OXFORD — Edith Hilton Whitt, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Keith Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church and at other times at the home of Harold and Kate Hilton.
