Betty Ann Norwood Hancock

CLARKSVILLE, Va. — Betty Ann Norwood Hancock, 75, wife of James Ronald Hancock, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

She was born July 25, 1939, in Vance County to the late Charlie Thomas and Wilma Lee Watson Norwood. A graduate of Townsville High School with the Class of 1957, Betty was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was also voted best looking in her senior class. After high school, Betty worked with the CIA in Washington, D.C., and then moved to Texas where she worked for the water department.

After moving back to Townsville, she worked for Peoples Bank. Her main focus in life was being a wife and mother.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Lovelace officiating. Burial will be private.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, Betty is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Jerry Phillips of Nashville, Tennessee, and Lori and Bain Arthur of Forest; and grandsons, Steven Phillips of Nashville, Tennessee, and Matt and Noah Arthur of Forest; her siblings and their spouses, Joyce and Dan Moss and Chuck and Mary Norwood, all of Townsville; Dave and Betty Norwood of Clarksville; Sylvia and Ronald Anderson of Townsville; Nathan Fleming of Henderson, and Donna and Mike Canada of Bear Grass.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Betty’s name to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Maxine Baskerville

HENDERSON — Maxine Baskerville, 83, of 234 Horner St., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Arrangements will be announced by E.C. Terry’s Funeral and Cremation Services.
