Josephine N. Balltzglier

HENDERSON — Josephine Ball Norwood Balltzglier, age 67, a resident of 118 Spring Valley Drive, Henderson, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at her home.

Born on July 5, 1945, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Thomas Ball and Lennie Pendergrass Ball.

She was retired from Vance County Schools and was a bus driver for E.O. Young Elementary School, and also worked in the cafeteria at Northern Vance High School. Josephine attended Mt. Auburn United Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 23, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Auburn United Church of Christ by the Rev. Gary Bateman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Chester Balltzglier of the home; two daughters, Cynthia Roberson Bowen and husband, Wesley, and Amy Norwood Williamson and husband, Dennis, of Henderson; one son, Kenneth Michael Norwood and wife, Breidi, of Manson; four grandchildren, Ashley Parrish and husband, Daniel, Layden Bowden and fianceé, Brooke Roberson, Lydia Eller and husband, John, and Torre Caparatta; two great-grandchildren, Nolan Parrish and Adelyn Paige; one sister, Elaine B. Mitchell of Manson; one brother, T.P. Ball and wife, Debbie, of Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Stanley C. Norwood, Jr., and her brother-in-law, Bobby Mitchell.

The family will receive friends tonight, June 22, 2013, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 118 Spring Valley Drive, Henderson.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Dennis Wilder, Tommy Abbott, Floyd Snyder, Jimmy Fletcher, Jeff Watson and Tyler Pierce.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 914, Henderson, NC 27536.

Charles F. McGhee

HENDERSON — Charles Freddie McGhee, age 69, a resident of 133 Daisy Lane, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Durham Specialty Hospital.

Born on Feb. 23, 1944, in Vance County, he was the son of the late Frankie Mae McGhee and Hawk Sparrow. Mr. McGhee served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was employed at Gemini Mobile Home Manufacturing.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 2 p.m., at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia Fuller McGhee of the home; and one son, Charles Freddie McGhee Jr. of the home.

The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m., at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. At other times they will be at the home at 133 Daisy Lane, off Faulkner Town Road.

Celesta M. Harris

HENDERSON — Celesta Morris Harris, 51, of 519 Whitten Ave., Henderson, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., today, June 22, 2013, in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service, with Pastor Julia Foster Leak officiating.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Sammy L. Harris

OXFORD — Sammy Lee Harris, 55, a resident of 4153 Shock Overton Road, Oxford, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Only Way Church of Christ Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, June 24, 2013, at the funeral home.
