Janet G. Weathersbee

RALEIGH — Janet Glenn Weathersbee, 78, passed away from her family and friends on Saturday, March 1, 2014.

She was the daughter of Austin Clarke and Margaret Glenn of Elizabeth City, where she grew up and lived until 1968.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert I. Weathersbee; her sister, Mary Lee Glenn Green of Louisburg; her children, Rhonda, Lee and Lynn; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Mitchell’s Funeral Home on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8. A reception will follow the service.

Margaret T. Myrick

WARRENTON — Margaret Tucker Myrick, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical center.

She was a Warren County native born to the late Johnny Edward and Myrtle Harris Tucker.

Mrs. Myrick was a member of Norlina Baptist Church and was retired from the Warren County Department of Social Services after 38 years of employment.

Rev. Jerry Davidson, Rev. Carlyle Hall and Rev. Doug Cutts will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Norlina Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Warren Plains Methodist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, J. Macon Myrick; her children, Linda Rush and husband George of Henderson and Ed Myrick and wife Lisa of Macon; and her four grandchildren, Rayven Myrick, Colton Myrick, Danyelle Felts and Tabitha Allen.

Pallbearers will be Skeeter Hight, Mike Hight, Vance Darnell, James Moseley, Bill Mustian and Donald Shearin.

The family asks that any memorials be made to the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.

Bobby G. Buchanan

NEW YORK — Bobby Gray Buchanan, 77, of 277 W. 22nd St., died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Moyel Gray Buchanan and Alma Ellington Buchanan.

Mr. Buchanan was a graduate of Oxford High School and RPI/VCU in Richmond, Va. He received a Master’s Degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. He was owner, director and producer of Lakewood Theatre in Barnsville, Pa., and Broadway Dinner Theatre in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He directed Stock Productions in New Jersey, Maine, Virginia and Massachusetts, and was associated with many Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.

Bobby traveled extensively all over the world. He enjoyed life and meeting people. He had many friends among the rich and famous and “not so famous.” He will be missed by all his families in North Carolina, Virginia and Texas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Chapel in Henderson, N.C., conducted by Rev. Alfred Ayscue. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford, N.C.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Barbara Buchanan of Houston, Texas, and two nieces, Dr. Kimberly Cress, of Houston, Texas, and Stacy Brownrigg of Dallas, Texas.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

James M. Garrett Sr.

HENDERSON — James Maynard Garrett Sr., age 61, a resident of 1134 Poplar Creek Road, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

Born on March 17, 1952, in Person County, he was the son of the late John Calvin Garrett and Julie Ann Frazier Garrett.

He was a self-employed clock maker and was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Blessed Hope Baptist Church by Dr. Donald A. Perkinson.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Newton Garrett of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Michelle Garrett of Oxford; three sons, James Maynard Garrett Jr. and wife Melissa of Oxford, Jonathan Wayne Garrett and wife Kelley of Stovall and Joshua Michael Garrett of Dover; one brother, Calvin Thomas Garrett of Henderson; one sister, Shirley Ann Jones of Bearpond; four grandchildren, Jonathan Greene, Hannah Garrett, Levi Garrett and Skylar Garrett; and four special friends, Karen and Donald White, Dad “Foy” Newton and Alton Howard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jamie Starr Garrett, and two sisters, Mary Ann Dement and Brenda Ann Floyd.

The family will receive friends on Sunday immediately following the service at Blessed Hope Baptist Church. At other times they will be at the home on Poplar Creek Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

George Davis

LOUISBURG — George Davis, 79, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Mitchell Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, March 6, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg.
