Add Smith

 

HENDERSON — Add Smith, 77, of 1109 McArthur St., died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his home.

Born Dec. 21, 1936, in Harnett County, he was the son of the late Josephine Wilson Smith and Joel Benjamin Smith.

Mr. Smith was a retired welder for Gamewell Mechanical in Salisbury.

Funeral services will be held today, March 4, at 2 p.m. in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Hedgepeth Smith of the home; three daughters, Lynn S. Woodlief and husband Alridge and Jane S. Duncan of Henderson, and Addie S. Batten and husband David of Oxford; one son, Patrick Smith of Raleigh; two sisters, Jessie S. Roberts of Creedmoor and Nellie Baker of Raleigh; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Clara S. Jones, and one brother, Henry Smith.

The family will receive friends today, March 4, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home, at 1109 McArthur St.

Serving as active pall bearers will be Jason Overby, Eddie Perry, Troy Overby, Steve Pernell, Scott Pernell and Will Pernell. Honorary pall bearers will be Marvin Ross and Al Wortham.

Emma H. Harris

 

HENDERSON — Emma Louise Hilliard Harris, 82, of 1658 Warrenton Road, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her home.

Born in Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wilbur Hilliard Sr. and Caroline Daeke Hilliard Grumio. She was the widow of Macy Fenner Harris.

Mrs. Harris was a former bookkeeper at Vance Trucking Company, Home Building Supply, and Perfect Packed Pickles. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Warrenton. She spent many years caring for her invalid husband, and will always be remembered by her family for her dedication to him. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter.

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at Sunset Gardens, conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon.

Surviving are a son, Ronald A. Harris and wife Tammy of Henderson; a grandson, Dustin Ty Harris and fiancée Lynn of Henderson; four step-grandchildren, Brandon Bowling and wife Amy of Franklinton, Donald Squires and wife Bobbie Jo of Wake Forest, Diane Dean of Wake Forest and Misty Edwards and husband Kale of Henderson; six step-great-grandchildren, Donovan Dean, Gavin Edwards, Graycen Bowling, Emerson Edwards, Aubree Bowling and Victoria Gill; and two sisters, Elizabeth H. Leventein of New York and Ethel P. Dickerson and husband Albert of Henderson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wayne Harris; two sisters, Loretta G. Gervasi and Gladys H. Whitlow; and a brother, Thomas W. Hilliard Jr.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1658 Warrenton Road, Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1699 Weldon’s Mill Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

OXFORD — Annie Lee Doris Mangum Daniel, 87, died Sunday, March 2, 2014.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Calvary Baptist Church in Henderson by Rev. Gene Wood and Rev. Bruce Brooks. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham.
