WARRENTON — The Warren County Board of Education has taken steps to acquire property for a new school bus maintenance garage.

The board approved the purchase of two parcels of land located at 255 and 259 U.S. 1 South in Norlina. The owners are George Wesley Harris IV and Jennifer H. Harris. The purchase price is $235,000.

After Chairman Calvin Jones convened the meeting, the board voted to go into closed session to discuss a student matter.

When the board returned to open session, board attorney Al Thompson read a proposed resolution describing the property and contracting to purchase it.

“It’s ideally suited for a maintenance garage,” he said.

The board voted unanimously to approve the resolution.

The purchase is subject to approval by the Warren County Board of Commissioners. Warren County Clerk Angelena Kearney-Dunlap confirmed that the issue will be on the agenda for the Board of Commissioners’ meeting on Monday.

Commissioner Ruby Downey, who represents District 3 that includes Norlina, said, “I know they need a bus garage.”

She declined to say how she would vote.

“I’d have to look into that before I comment,” she said.

No action related to the student matter was taken in open session.
