Vance fire chief resigns

The Vance County fire marshal has vacated his post.

Harold Henrich submitted his resignation Thursday effective immediately, according to County Manager Jerry Ayscue.

Ayscue said no other information would be released at this time.

Henrich is originally from Johnston County and has been in emergency services in Vance since 2009.

Some, like Henderson Fire chief Danny Wilkerson, said they were surprised he quit.

“I know a lot of things have been going on in his life, but I don’t know what caused it,” he said.

Drewry Volunteer Fire Department chief Charles Holtzman said he hadn’t heard about it at all.

“The last I heard, at the last meeting, he was here and planned on working for a long time,” he said. “But that was several weeks ago.”

When reached by phone Friday afternoon, Henrich said he had no comment.
