Police make arrest, file arson, vandalism charges
Donterio Deshawn Williams has been arrested by Henderson police, charged with burning a business and vandalism.
The 23-year-old Williams was arrested Sept. 5. His bond was set at $25,000 and late Thursday he remained in the Vance County Jail, according to Lt. Christopher Ball.
Williams, of 87 Dalton Lane, has past convictions on charges of sexual assault, vandalism and arson.
According to Ball, Williams became the focus of an investigation into a series of early morning incidents in the downtown district that took place Sept. 4.
First, there was a fire reportedly set in a trash can at the First United Methodist Church on Church Street. The fire destroyed the trash can and did damage to a utility pole and some of the siding of an outbuilding, causing an estimated $700 damage.
Other incidents followed on South Chestnut and South Garnett streets. Police found a broken window to a vehicle belonging to Mast Drug and a broken window at Sam’s Furniture.
According to state prison records, Williams served several months of a two-year suspended sentence in June and July 2012. He had been convicted on March 25, 2010, on charges of sexual battery and indecent liberties with a child stemming from an Aug. 28, 2009, incident.
