Salary of DSS director authorized, not to exceed $92,000
The Vance County Department of Social Services board has been authorized by county commissioners to offer a salaried position up to $92,000 annually.
Commissioners in attendance for a special called meeting late Monday evening voted unanimously to authorize the salary increase, which was previously up to $88,000, according to Tommy Hester, chairman of the committee.
Hester said the county pays 50 percent of the salary and the federal government pays the remaining 50 percent.
The former director of social services, Linda Fry, resigned in July and the board is still looking for her replacement. The board has begun conducting interviews but has not said how many.
Hester said the meeting took all of seven minutes. Commissioners Archie Taylor, Dan Brummitt, Gordon Wilder and Terry Garrison attended the meeting. Deborah Brown, the vice chairwoman, and Eddie Wright did not attend.
