Murder case continued to April 28

The 18-year-old accused of fatally shooting a Henderson convenient store clerk last month will appear in Vance County District Court later this month.

Diaquan Jameek Waddell, of 1828 South Clearview Drive in Henderson, was scheduled to appear on Monday, but he could not be transported from his out-of-county location. His next court date is Monday, April 28.

Waddell is charged with the shooting death of Ahmend Shahit, 55, at the BP station at 615 Raleigh Road. Waddell’s charges include one count of first-degree murder, one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of second-degree kidnapping.

Shahit was an immigrant from Yemen who is survived by his wife, six children and three grandchildren, according to his obituary.

Waddell has also been charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon relating to the robbery reported at the Raleigh Road Convenient Mart on March 11 and two robberies reported at the Waffle House, 942 West Andrews Avenue, Henderson, on March 13 and 18, respectively.

Dontrell Jaquan Hargrove, 22, of 464 Skenes Ave., Henderson, and Marvin Hargrove Jr., 25, of 123 S. Cooper Drive, Henderson, are also in custody in connection the March 11 incident.

Each man faces charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.
