School delayed Friday; Tri-County included in winter weather advisory

The Tri-County area is under a winter weather advisory from 11 p.m. Thursday evening until 10 a.m. Friday morning.

Vance County Schools have announced they will be on a two-hour delay. Vance-Granville Community College will open at 10 a.m.

The 20 counties included Vance, Granville and Warren. Slippery roads are anticipated for the Friday morning commute.

Also included on the list are Alamance, Chatham, Davidson, Durham, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Guilford, Halifax, Johnston, Nash, Orange, Person, Randolph, Wake, Wayne and Wilson.

The advisory is for a wintry mix of precipitation. Snow, sleet and freezing rain are possible within the 20-county area. The snow is mainly expected in the Triad counties near Greensboro, with other areas getting no more than a dusting.

Precipitation is expected to start sometime around 4 a.m.
Temperatures are expected to be at or just below freezing within two hours after precipitation begins falling.
