No arrests yet in weekend murders at Henderson motel
Police are still investigating a double murder at a Henderson motel this past weekend and have yet to make an arrest.
An incident report obtained Thursday by The Dispatch states an undetermined firearm was used to gun down a man and a woman at the Scottish Inns Motel early Saturday morning.
The report indicates Kenya Odessa Hodges, 34, of 519 Daniel St., and Michael Jerome Kearney, 33, of 804 Epsom Road, both of Henderson, died from gunshot injuries at the scene of the 3:18 a.m., Saturday, shooting.
In a response to questions by The Dispatch, Henderson Police Department Lt. Christopher Ball said that the shooting did not occur inside a room.
“The incident occurred outside in the breezeway of the hotel rooms,” Ball wrote in an email response.
The report by Officer William Aiken noted there were damage points from fired rounds that struck a wall and a window of the motel at 1759 N. Garnett St., room 171.
According to prior statements by Lt. Alan Hedgepeth, 911 dispatched officers to the motel in response to someone being shot. They found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot injuries. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, and they pronounced Hodges and Kearney both dead.
Aiken’s report described the offender as an unknown person of unknown age, sex or race.
Henderson police declined comment on questions of possible motive, if there was an altercation or fight leading up to the shots fired, if others were in the outdoor area or nearby, or if either victim or others had also been armed.
Ball said the incident is under further investigation.
