Dispatch photographer earns state recognition
Mark Dolejs, staff photographer for The Dispatch, was recently honored in the N.C. Press Photographers Association Pictures of the Year contest.
Dolejs won honorable mention recognition for a picture in the sports feature category of Allie Rose Bliss.
Dolejs finished fourth in the state in the monthly clip contest. Points are accumulated in several categories each month.
Jerry Wolford of the Greensboro News & Record, the state’s third-largest daily newspaper, won the contest for the third straight year. Wolford and Dolejs share a connection as former classmates at Randolph Community College.
“I really appreciate the opportunity I have at The Dispatch to make photos on a regular basis,” Dolejs said. “I truly love community journalism. For me it’s not at all about the contests, but the people that I get to meet and introduce to others through the product we put out.”
Dolejs came to the newspaper in 2012.
“We are very fortunate to have Mark,” said James Edwards, publisher of The Dispatch. “Mark’s love of community journalism certainly shows.”
“No matter the event, the people or entities involved, Mark understands the importance to those in his pictures and makes every effort to deliver us the best image possible,” said Alan Wooten, editor of The Dispatch. “We know our readers have one of the best.”
