Middleburg adds pair of candidates
Two weeks passed in the municipal filing election period and Middleburg got two candidates for town commissioner.
They added two more Monday in the extended filing period.
Middleburg has three commissioner seats on the ballot for Nov. 5 in addition to mayor. On Monday, incumbent Gary Plummer and challenger D.L. Dusty Herring added their names to the list.
Incumbent commissioners Annie Fudge and Ruth Nance each went on the ballot during the July 5-19 period. Incumbent Ray Bullock is challenged by Dean Dickerson for mayor.
When only two commissioner candidates had signed up for the three spots by the deadline, the Vance County Board of Elections opted to extend the filing period. Candidates can continue to sign up through Friday at noon.
All other filing has been completed in the Vance County communities of Henderson and Kittrell. Filing is also complete in Granville and Warren counties.
In the eight communities under The Dispatch flag, 57 individuals have come forward thus far to try and help their communities by serving in public office. That total includes 10 each in Warrenton and Oxford, and nine each in Henderson and Norlina.
Municipal elections are held Oct. 8 in Henderson, and Nov. 5 in each of the other seven communities.
Questions about filing in Vance County should be directed to the board’s office at (252) 492-3730 or (252) 492-1647.
