Christmas in July is coming to the area roadways, courtesy of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

“We’re putting emphasis on DWI, speeding and occupant restraint,” said First Sgt. Eric Thompson, who is based in Henderson’s District IV office with Troop C. “They’re calling it Christmas in July because it’s giving the gift of life and safe roads in July.”

Troopers will making the push starting Thursday and running through the weekend. It is the second consecutive year of the campaign.

The highway patrol utilizes more than 1,600 troopers to cover the 78,000 miles of highway in North Carolina. That’s second only to Texas in mileage.
