Day of Prayer sites, times set

Apr. 29, 2014 @ 06:14 PM

On Thursday, people of faith in the Tri-County area will join millions across the nation in celebrating the 63rd National Day of Prayer.

Sponsored locally by Ministers in Community Partnership, the day will be observed at several locations around the area.

At noon, prayer vigils will be held at:

• Maria Parham Medical Center.

• Henderson City Hall.

• Vance County Courthouse.

At 7 p.m., a prayer rally will be held at the Southern Vance High School football stadium.

This year’s theme is: “So that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,” which comes from the book of Romans in the Christian Bible.

A National Day of Prayer was first established in 1952. In 1988, Congress set the first Thursday in May as the official date of the National Day of Prayer as a time when adherents of all religions could unite in prayer.
