Brothers charged in multiple thefts
Two brothers from Henderson arrested last week on Virginia warrants charging multiple thefts are suspects in as many as a dozen similar larceny cases in Vance and Warren counties targeting batteries and accessory items.
Gregory and Rodney Bassett were arrested Jan. 15 by Vance County deputies serving the warrants for Mecklenburg County, Va.
Maj. Joseph Ferguson on Tuesday confirmed an ongoing investigation is ongoing to uncover possible links to similar thefts in Vance County.
“They would be suspects in battery thefts in the county, as well as other thefts,” Ferguson said.
Ferguson indicated the battery theft cases in Vance County appear similar to others in Warren County, but he could not comment on whether Warren investigators identify either or both Bassett brothers as suspects there.
Warren County Sheriff Johnny Williams could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.
Police and deputy reports since Dec. 1 note a total of nearly $16,800 worth of batteries and other associated items or accessories as reported stolen during a dozen incidents in Warren and Vance counties. Whether the Bassetts are linked to any or all has not been announced.
According to Vance County District Court records, Gregory Charles Bassett, 35, and Rodney Gene Bassett, 40, received a March 3 hearing date for their fugitive extradition cases.
According to arrest records, the Bassett brothers reside at 195 Bowman Lane, Henderson. They each received a $10,000 bond.
Gregory Bassett also faces a possession of burglary tools charge in Vance County, and he is due in District Court for a hearing today.
Ferguson said that both brothers were bonded out and then turned themselves in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office the following day.
