Corey Cheek Sr., a 37-year-old with residence listed as Davis Street in Henderson, has been arrested by Henderson police on 36 theft-related charges.
Cheek is the father of Corey Cheek Jr., 17, who is facing two first-degree murder charges.
Corey Cheek Sr. was taken into custody Tuesday after a foot chase and following a citizen tip. He was a suspect from a December larceny of 11 batteries and cables at Auto Mart of Henderson.
Cheek is facing charges of trespassing, possession of stolen property, obtaining property by false pretenses and 11 counts each of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny of motor vehicle parts and vandalism.
Lt. Christopher Ball said Cheek was jailed on $175,000 bond pending a hearing in Vance County District Court scheduled for Aug. 13.
According to police, the Auto Mart on 133 Raleigh Road was robbed of 11 batteries and cables valued at $2,750 on or about Dec. 12. The items were located at Sadler’s Recycler on J.P. Taylor Road.
With cooperation from Sadler’s management, investigators were able to identify Cheek as the individual who possessed the property.
According to Ball, Henderson police regularly communicate with local metal recyclers. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity of metal removal or other kinds of crime to the police.
