Two people have been hurt in the crash of a small plane in Granville County.

The sheriff's office says the plane came down late Thursday morning in a field near Oxford.

Granville County sheriff's deputies identified the pilot as 81-year-old Albert Wehe of Raleigh and his passenger was 41-year-old Matt McKee of Franklinton. A deputy said they were taken to a local hospital, believed to be Granville Medical Center, as a precaution and did not have life-threatening injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the Beech A23 single-engine plane took off from Oxford-Henderson Airport just after 10 a.m. According to the FAA registry, the plane was owned by Wehe.

Federal officials are investigating the crash.
