All eight expected at City Council candidates forum
All eight Henderson City Council candidates are expected today at 4:30 p.m. for a forum hosted by the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce, radio station WIZS-1450 AM and The Dispatch.
The candidates will appear before the public on a live radio broadcast from the county commissioners’ room at the Vance County Administrative Building, 122 Young Street, in Henderson.
The public attending the event will have the chance to turn in questions to be presented to the candidates. Each of the eight will give a two-minute opening, then have a balanced rotating order to answer the questions. The final segment is a final statement from each candidate.
After the event, the public and candidates will be able to engage conversation — indoors if the weather is uncooperative, or out on the grounds if weather permits.
The forum will be available for replay on webcast at wizs.com, and The Dispatch will provide coverage at hendersondispatch.com this evening and in Tuesday’s print edition.
Doors open at 4 p.m.
The City Council seats on the ballot are at-large Ward 1, at-large Ward 2, Ward 3 and Ward 4.
Sara Coffey is challenged by Charles Douglas for the at-large Ward 1 seat; Mike Inscoe is challenged by Arnold Booth Jr. for the at-large Ward 2 position; Garry Daeke is challenged by Geraldine Champion for the Ward 3 seat; and Vernon Brown is challenged by Fearldine Simmons for the Ward 4 position.
Early voting began Thursday and will continue through Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Board of Elections office on Garnett Street.
Election Day is Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Profiles of each of the eight candidates are available online at hendersondispatch.com.
