Juvenile sought after beating incident

A Henderson man received major injuries from a beating at a Vicksboro Road trailer home near his own residence Monday, and deputies are searching for a juvenile in connection to the assault.

Vance County Sheriff Peter White said at least one of two shooting incidents in the same area afterward is connected to the original assault complaint that sent Jamarcus Perry, 19, of 1901 Vicksboro Road, Lot 28, to the hospital.

White said Maria Parham Medical Center authorities notified him they transferred Perry to Duke University Medical Center. Perry’s injuries were major, according to deputy reports.

“The victim was hit with a wooden bat,” White said. “He is going to be transferred to Duke.”

The incident occurred at 1843 Vicksboro Road, Lot 24, at about 5 p.m., Monday, and was reported to deputies at 5:41 p.m., prompting an investigation.

Of Perry family members named in the reports, one lives in the trailer park, in a nearby residence to the lot number where the incident took place. Another of the two reporting family members, whose age was redacted from the incident reports, lives in the city limits of Henderson.

Two shooting incidents were reported to deputies at times that were just minutes apart, at 9:12 p.m., and 9:15 p.m., within a quarter of a mile of each other.

A trailer park residence near where the beating incident happened sustained three shotgun blasts damaging exterior walls, and a home on Grain Lane within a quarter mile away also sustained damaging hits from gunfire.

White said deputies are looking for an underage male suspect in the beating case, acknowledging the possibility that the suspect might also be involved with or aware of the shooting that struck the nearby trailer home.

“We think the person who did this (beating attack) is a juvenile,” White said. “We don’t know if he is responsible for the shooting, but we believe the incidents are related.”

The trailer park property owner while visiting the sheriff’s office on Monday expressed concern to Vance County Sheriff’s Office personnel about the incidents, asking for added patrols to the Vicksboro Road area.
