Vance County deputies are investigating a shotgun shooting into the back of a victim causing serious injury Friday night at the intersection of Nicholas Street and Yancey Lane.

According to Vance County Sheriff Peter White, the incident is under investigation as an armed assault with intent to kill, injuring Frankie Lee Eaton, 44, of Henderson.

“He was injured and transported to Maria Parham Medical Center,” White said. “I believe it was a shotgun, the shot spread,” he added, indicating several pellet injuries, but none life threatening.

White said investigators are looking into whether there was an altercation that began the incident. He added he did not believe there was any theft involved.

“We don’t know what the motive was, but we know it wasn’t robbery,” White said.

There was no reason to believe that more than one shot had been fired, according to White.

There were no pending arrests or named suspects as of Monday, White added.
