Warrenton assured competition

Competition for elected office in Warrenton has been guaranteed.

With filings Monday and Tuesday, the Warren County community will have two candidates for mayor and thus far has four filings for town commissioner with three seats available. Included are three incumbents.

Mayor Walter Gardner Jr. added his name on Tuesday, filing for re-election and already scheduled to oppose challenger Tim Ennis. Mary Hunter filed for re-election as a town commissioner on Tuesday as well.

Filing Monday for town commissioner were incumbent Kimberly Harding and Deborah Speer. Robert Schuerch filed on opening day.

The communities of Macon and Norlina are yet to have anyone file for mayor or commissioner, respectively.

The Vance County municipalities of Henderson, Kittrell and Middleburg were without filings for the second consecutive day.

In Granville County, Janet Parrott filed to seek re-election as mayor of Stovall.
