Area artists have an opportunity to compete for grants worth $200 to $1,500 to support projects that will advance their careers.

The Regional Artist Project Grant program will hold a grant-writing workshop for interested artists from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday at The Gallery, 233 S. Garnett St. in Henderson.

The grant program is designed for artists at any stage of their careers, from beginner to established artist. The grant can be used for professional development workshops and conferences, equipment, marketing materials and similar uses. The primary criterion is the grant proposal should advance the applicant’s career in a demonstrable way. The grants are highly competitive.

Artists and small unincorporated groups of collaborating artists in Vance, Warren, Franklin, Johnston and Wake counties are eligible to apply. The program is restricted to U.S. citizens 18 years of age or older who are not enrolled in a high school or degree/certificate program.

The grant program is sponsored by the United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County. Support is also provided by the N.C. Arts Council with funding from the state of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support is provided by the Franklin County Arts Council, Johnston County Arts Council, Vance County Arts Council and Warren County Arts Council.

The deadline for grant applications is March 7 at 5 p.m.

More information and downloadable guidelines, including an application form and a budget form, are available at Click on “Grants To Individuals.”
