Local law enforcement agencies mustered to support an early departure of social service workers from their offices Wednesday in Henderson after what Vance County Sheriff Peter White said was a possible threat.

The Department of Social Service’s offices on Young Street and Ruin Creek Road went on lock-down, and were vacated soon after 4 p.m.

“There was a possible threat received,” White said. “That was done as a precaution.”

Henderson Police Department’s Lt. Christopher Ball said in a written statement that a warning came in about a potential situation at Vance County DSS at about 2 p.m.

According to Ball officers with the Henderson Police Department responded and are investigating the tip.

White said that his deputies will be on hand while an ongoing investigation probes to discover what the threat situation is all about.

“We will be on site in the future as we get to the bottom of it,” White said.
