Boyd accepts plea on lesser charges
James Boyd accepted a plea deal in Vance County Superior Court on Wednesday.
Judge Paul Ridgeway sentenced Boyd to 50 to 72 months — or four to six years — in prison for sexual battery and 150 days — or five months — for second-degree kidnapping. The sentences will be served consecutively.
Boyd will be required to register as a sex offender.
He was arrested and charged with felony first-degree rape and kidnapping following a July 28 incident.
The victim reported Boyd lured her to his home, prevented her from leaving when she felt uncomfortable and raped her.
Medical examinations following the assault showed severe tenderness and bruising on her vaginal area.
The victim was 22-years-old at the time of the incident.
