Morning fire destroys outbuilding
A fire on Tuesday morning destroyed an outbuilding in the 12400 block of N.C. 39 South near Townsville.
Crews from Townsville and Hicksboro volunteer fire departments and Vance County fire, EMS and rescue responders received the call at about 10:30 a.m., finding the structure on fire behind a household location.
Vance County Fire Chief Harold Henrich said the building served as a workshop, with some items of value inside belonging to a homeowner.
“It was a total loss,” Henrich said. “He was using a woodstove, and it malfunctioned.”
Crews doused the flames quickly. Henrich confirmed that no one was injured. Losses were estimated at $10,000 for the workshop and items in it.
