Unique consignment boutique giving back to the community

Tots N’ More, a new consignment boutique on Dabney Drive in Henderson, opened its doors for business earlier this month.

The store is stocked with a little bit of everything needed for a baby, young children and maternity apparel for expecting mothers. Children’s clothing is sized from newborn to size 12.

Unique to Tots N’ More is the fact 5 percent of all proceeds are given to local charities, which vary each quarter. Another 5 percent goes to a North Carolina couple planning a mission trip to the Netherlands.

Consigners receive 45 percent of profit from their clothing, and the remaining 45 percent stays with the store.

“We’re wanting to keep the money in the community, and encourage people to give to those, or get involved with those charities,” said owner Joyce Doughty. “This quarter we’re doing the Vance County animal shelter, next quarter we’re doing United Way and third quarter we’re doing Rebuilding Hope.”

Children’s items consigned to the store are asked to be gently used, free of holes or tears and clean. Baby gear and toys that have been recalled are not accepted.

Doughty was inspired to open the store after getting two grandchildren just five months apart.

“I got two grandchildren in one year,” Doughty said. “They are five months apart.”

Finding maternity clothing for her two pregnant daughters was no easy task.

“It’s hard to find maternity in Henderson, so we are really excited about having a maternity section.”

Reasonable prices can be found on maternity skirts, bathing suits, sweaters, and jeans as low as $8.

Economical prices can also be found on girl’s dresses – a Bonnie Jean dress that retails for $50 was found for $10. A 14-piece Winnie The Pooh bed set, retail about $180 and up, was found for $75. And a unique Brentwood Baby rocker set was priced well below its original retail value.

Many items brought to Tots N’ More still have the tags on them, and others have only been worn once or twice.

“We take tagged items all the time,” Doughty said. “Something that kids haven’t even worn, or they got a lot in a shower or something.”

Tots N’ More is baby and kid friendly. A convenient kids corner allows children to play while mothers shop.
