Citizen awards in two counties approach deadlines

Deadlines are coming due, including one today, for prestigious citizen awards in Vance and Granville counties.

Today is the nomination deadline for the Citizen of the Year award presented annually by the Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce. The award honors an individual each year who has made significant contributions to Henderson and Vance County and demonstrated commitment to the advancement of the area.

Nominations should be in the chamber’s office by close of business at 5 p.m. More information is available at (252) 438-8414 or by emailing john@hendersonvance.org.

Nominees must reside in Vance County and include contributions outside of the individual’s occupation.

The award will be presented at the Jan. 28 annual meeting and banquet, at which Gov. Pat McCrory is scheduled to be the guest speaker.

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce is taking nominations for the John Penn Citizen Award through Monday, Jan. 6. The award honors an individual each year for outstanding service to the community.

The award will be presented at the annual banquet on Monday, Jan. 27.

Both banquets will be held at the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center.
