Thursday shooting claims two lives
Vance County Sheriff Peter White has released the names of two people shot to death on Thursday evening.
White confirmed Friday morning Brooke Patrice Lewis and Shawn O’Brian Henry were found by deputies in the BP gas station and convenience store at 2868 N.C. 39 South. The discovery was made about 8 p.m. after a telephone call to 911 from the location.
According to White, deputies were directed by a store clerk into the store and found both Lewis, a 28-year-old of McNair Circle in Henderson, and Henry, a 31-year-old of Springwood Drive in Henderson, unresponsive.
After investigating, White said Lewis and Henry had arrived at the store together, with Lewis running in “seeking refuge” after a shot was fired outside. Henry shot Lewis and then turned the gun on himself.
According to White, there were no prior reported incidents of domestic problems between the two and he said their relationship together was unknown to his department.
He added that there was no indication of Lewis being held or taken against her will.
“Not that we know of,” White said. “From what we know, they drove to the location together. It is my understanding that there was a shot fired outside the store before she ran in.”
White said detectives have concluded their investigation.
“It is pretty clear that it was a murder-suicide situation,” White said.
The murder is the first in Vance County in the calendar year 2013, and the first in the county since an ax murder on Friday, April 13, 2012.
