School make-up days on agenda

The Vance County school board will consider possible make-up days at its meeting Tuesday night.

The school board delayed its meeting by one day due to the rescheduled Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and banquet on the same evening. Gov. Pat McCrory is scheduled to attend and speak at the chamber event.

The school district was closed for three days in January due to snow. The school calendar lists March 3, June 9 and June 10 as optional teacher workdays that could be changed to student school days.

The Early College High School calendar lists Feb. 18, April 9 and May 23 as teacher workdays that could be changed to student school days.

The agenda materials for Monday’s meeting includes a recommendation from Superintendent Ronald Gregory to schedule any other make-up days for the Saturday of the week the inclement weather occurred, in case there are additional snow days this school year.

The board will also consider budget amendments to the state public school fund, the federal grants fund and restricted fund.

A $545,623 amendment to the state public school fund would raise the state appropriation in the current budget from $42,395,890 to $42,941,513.

A $89,923 amendment to the federal grants fund would raise the federal appropriation in the current budget from $7,895,985 to $7,985,908.

A $10,370 amendment to the restricted fund would raise the restricted fund appropriation in the current budget from $2,453,629 to $2,463,999.

The local current expense fund would remain unchanged.
